Five Theories About What Causes Procrastination
Think back to the last time you procrastinated. What was it like? What was your “inner monologue” in that moment?
You were probably saying to yourself something like, “I don’t want to do this,” or maybe just, “This task sucks!” Studies show that procrastination is correlated with bad feelings, which we chalk up to the suckiness of the task. Psychologists call this “task aversiveness.” This term just means that the task is unpleasant and its unpleasantness is the cause of why we don’t want to do it.
